>> good morning, everyone, i'm katie marzullo in for carolyn tyler on this sunday. it is 5:00 a.m. we will start you off with a quick look at the weather. the cold snap continues. good morning, katie. >> good morning. we have a spare-the-air day and a freeze warning until 9:00 this morning. temperatures dropping below freezing in many north bay neighborhoods. in the mid-30s in san francisco. we still have a way to go until sunrise. more 20s and 30s, even mid-30s at the coast. by noontime another raw afternoon. the winds will be lighter today. low to mid-50s and 40s by noontime. by the afternoon still as much as 10 degrees below afternoon. we are looking at another freeze warning tonight into monday morning and possibly into tuesday. the good news is that our afternoon highs will be warming up day-to-day. details on that in a few minutes. katie. >> that sounds good. thank you. in the south by officials are working to save lives as the temperature drops low enough to create life-threatening conditions. at least four deaths have occurred this week throughout santa clara county. but

>> good morning, everyone. happy is the day. thanks for being with us. i'm katie marzullo. let's start with a quick first look at the weather. i don't have to tell you will it's cold out there. good morning. >> yes, the cold front brought in an inch of rain. you can see some mixed precip just to the west of you. the moisture has moved out of the central coast. a little light rain but here's what's left of the front. we have once again very cold conditions, but most of the moisture is out of the area. we still have the possibility of some high-elevation snow around the santa cruz mountains. 30 and 40s right now. hid 30s by noontime. not getting warmer than that, upper 30s to 40. and one more opportunity for rain for the week ahead. i'll show that to go coming up. >> thank you. and sticking with the cold area, the frigid temperatures have been more than just uncomfortable. they have actual le turned deadly. in the south bay four people have died from hypothermia in the past few days. nick smith has more on this story. >> i've been homeless for almost a year now. >> he's one of th

in san jose. katie marzullo, what is the latest? >> c.h.p. says the highway will be closed for another hour with investigators on the freeway. the suspect is not identified only that he is "free." >> southbound interstate 5, empty of traffic and full of investigators. back up to 1:00 o'clock a.m., when c.h.p. officers were pursuing a suspect in stockton. the man was wanted for an attempted homicide in san jose. at some point, his car broke down on interstate 5 and c.h.p. called stockton police for backup. the suspect got out of the car. >> the suspect was yielding a knife and was not complying with orders so a stockton police officer fired the weapon, striking the weapon at least when time. >> the suspect died at the hospital and investigators say he was also wanted on suspicion of domestic violence. >> protocol for multiple answers to investigate when a police officer shoots someone and they take their time. the unseen portion of this investigation is now entering the 10th hour. >> fire investigators are trying to pinpoint the cause of an part building fire in the east bay that sent 5
. katie marzullo is in the newsroom. >> this is the largestest in a year long if issue for better pay if fast food workers and underway if negotiation city. workers began the protest at 6:30 this morning and as the day rolls out the workers in 100 cities walk off the job or then rally. workers are asking for more money. a federal minimum wage of $15 an hour. right now the wage is $7.25 which is $15,000 a year for full time employee. some experts say it is not a living wage. >> you could not buy your food if you have a family of zero you could support yourself but if you have a family with two kids and wife. >> workers take the jobs because they are desperate in an economy that is not creating enough work for people with want to go to work and not creating enough middle class jobs. >> this is the demonstration in oakland back if october and if the minimum wage went up to $15 food prices would go up and there would be fewer jobs. last month, president obama said he would back a senate measure to raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour and san francisco and san jose heard pay $1
